Hamachi
Julie
Cool Software
Since one of our favorite sites, Lifehacker named Hamachi as one of the Best Apps of 2006 we thought we should feature it. We use it every.single.day. and we couldn’t live without it. Ever. Period. It’s a zero-configuration virtual private networking (VPN) application. Really. That is the best description for this app, and I lifted said description off the Hamachi site.
We work from home, and all the machines at the office across town run Hamachi. We’ve set up our VPN using Hamachi, and we can access each other’s shared files. This is by far, the easiest VPN app you can find. It takes absolutely no knowledge of networking and you can have your own VPN set up in seconds. Yes, seconds. We promise.
There are other great features also. It is totally secure, and free. We like free here at UtterlyGeek.

I just did a post on Hamachi earlier today and I couldn’t agree more. Hamachi opens up many doors that were shut before.

I used LogMeIn all summer while I was away and it helped me in more ways than I can think of off the top of my head. It was a hectic summer and I spent more of it away than I did at home and it helped me bring everything together and manage to get all my work done.

[...] I’d never heard of Hamachi until I read about it at Utterly Geek. According to the article, it’s totally free and it’s secure. I’m getting ready to load it on my machines this afternoon. [...]
