Ultra Hal

JulieCool Products

Who needs friends when you have Ultra Hal around? All you need to do is fire up your computer, and you can have full on conversations with this computer companion and assistant, brought to you from Zabaware.

Zabbaware - Ultra Hal

It’s built with a huge conversation database, and it will learn sentences from what you ask it. It will remind you of appointments, and let you know when you have email. You can try their web based version here. It will even begin to take on your personality. I hope you’re not a hot-head. Having your computer screaming at you is not cool. “ALT TAB you moron!

ScienceKits.com

JulieCool Science

When my husband was a kid he played with science kits all the time. Over the years he has told me all about his bug kits, and robot kits, and he still even has all the books on his bookcase. I came across ScienceKits.com today, and I got to looking at all the neat kits they have. I bet I could buy him a few, even today, and he would totally LOVE them.

Science Kits

The Electronic Snap Circuits 300 looks cool. It’s a snap circuits kit that has over 300 projects you can do with 60 parts. The projects range from AM radios, burglar alarms, flash lights, door bells, and more. He’d have a great time with that, even though the age group is 8 and up.

Science Kits

He’d also like the Environmental Science Project Kits where he can learn about the green house effect, the standards of soil, the effect of acid rain, and global warming. This is perfect for ages 7 and up.

Science Kits

My personal favorite is the Crime Lab Investigation kit, where I can get all CSI on someone. It comes with chromatography paper, black and white fingerprint powder, plastic gloves, tweezers, analysis trays, and safety goggles. This is perfect for ages 8 and up.

But you don’t just have to be a kid to enjoy these. These are a great addition to the home schooling mom’s Science class, and projects you can enjoy along with your kids.

10 Rules for Responsible Blogging

JulieCool Web Dev & SEO

Sponsored Reviews

I was just over at the Sponsored Review’s blog and read this article on 10 Rules for Responsible Blogging. Sponsored Reviews is the company that buy reviews from bloggers based on their advertisers needs.

They have put together a really good list, and I would have to agree with all ten of their points.

  • Check your facts…make sure what you are posting is true.
  • Respect Copyright Law…don’t steal other people’s stuff (duh-derr).
  • Consider the implications…that is if you have a heart. I’ve been a victim of an insensitive bloggers. Luckily everyone already knew she was full of it.
  • Control the comments…There is a delete button on all blogging platforms. Use it!
  • Give credit where credit is due…“Hey, I found this at Sponsored Reviews cool blog.”
  • Disclose professional relationships…see here.
  • Disclose sponsored posts…see here.
  • Be transparent with affiliate links…Don’t trick your readers into signing up for anything, ever!
  • Respect Tax Law…if you make over $600 on your blog, you have to report it to the IRS. No if, ands, or buts.
  • Avoid “blackhat” methods…Don’t be hiding keywords, and links with CSS. The SE’s algorithms are much smarter than you.

There you have it. 10 simple rules to follow if you want to be a responsible blogger.

Sexy Hard Drive

JulieCool Hardware

I don’t think I have ever shared pictures of my sexy external hard drive. Trust me, it’s much sexier than yours. Even if you have the same exact one, mine is still sexier. It doesn’t just sit there and look bored. It has flashing colorful lights that change every 2.5 seconds. And it’s properly named F:\Disco Bitches. It’s a 320 GB, which isn’t all that big, but considering I have my entire internet life on it since 1997, it rocks like disco lemonade.

I will let you touch it for $50 bucks. Kiss it for $75 bucks. And do the unmentionable for $100. Who’s buying?

Airsoft Forums

JulieCool Sites

As the mother of two teenage boys, I know all too well about AirSoft guns. These guys are crazy about them, and I just found out that my oldest son hangs out in this AirSoft guns message forum. He’s got a friend who’s father takes them to the gun shows about once a month, and he is always buying a new gun. I think he’s up to 5 different ones now.

What is crazy about them, is how real they look! The one he has that looks so incredible real is the Silver Sig Sauer P228. If it didn’t have that orange tip on it, it would totally look like a real bullet firing gun. I do have some rules with him and his airsoft guns. They must have that orange tip. He cannot remove the orange tip. He can’t paint the orange tip. And no shooting it in the house! If I find one more of those little plastic bb’s on the ground, I am going to scream!

Marge Simpson on Google

JulieCool Geek Stuff

Did you guys catch The Simpson’s the other night when Marge got all sucked into the internet for the first time? It was so funny. Of course the first thing she did was Google herself.

Marge Simpson…

“629,000 thousand results. Wow. And all this time I thought Googling yourself meant the other thing.”

Then she went on to get sucked into a game where the whole town was playing including Bart. He ended up killing her in the game, then he brought her back to life because he felt bad. I bet this same scenario goes on in many gaming houses.

Online Classes - Collins College

JulieCool Sites

I know there has to be a few of you that do online classes like the ones they offer at Collins College. I ran upon them about a week ago while I was searching for places for my son to take some online courses, and I went back today to learn about Collins College some more. He needs the flexibility of online courses right now, so he can still take his day classes now. This summer he is going to be getting a job, so classes that he can sit down to at anytime are going to be a must.

So if any of you have experience in taking online courses, what should I look for when I’m looking at online courses and classes? Are there certain things I should stay clear of, or certain things I should avoid. Are the prices between different schools really that different, or are they all about the same? Help me out here!
